Privacy policy


This privacy policy explains how I use any personal information I collect about you, what I do with it and who it is shared with. I treat your information with care and respect and use it only for things you’d reasonably expect. Read on for full details.

Who I am

Louise Mary Designs is me, Louise Mary Muttitt (artist silversmith, jeweller, author, jewellery tutor and, for the purposes of this privacy policy, the Data Controller and Processor). You can contact me on louise@louisemarydesigns.co.uk or via my contact page.

What information do I collect about you?

I collect information provided by you when you contact me, register with me, make an enquiry (e.g. about commissions or workshops) or place an order for products or services. I also collect information when you complete customer surveys, comment on social media or blog posts, provide feedback or participate in competitions.

Google Analytics website usage information is automatically collected using cookies.

I don’t collect any sensitive personal data.

How do I use your information?

I'll use your information to process your orders, provide the services or information requested and, if you agree, to send you occasional emails with news of new products, special offers, events/workshops and blog posts.

All Louise Mary Designs emails have an unsubscribe link at the foot which you’re free to use at any time.

I don’t share your information for marketing purposes with anyone else.

If you’ve enquired about or attended a workshop, I may keep notes of your interests so that I can provide you with an optimum workshop experience.

I use Google Analytics (GA) to track and understand the use of this website (to see, for example, how many people use this website, how they found it and which pages they view most. I make improvements to the website based on this knowledge. GA doesn’t personally identify you to me. It records your IP address, but doesn’t grant me access to it.

On what lawful basis do I process your information?

I only send marketing emails where I have your explicit consent.

When I supply goods, services or information you’ve requested, my lawful basis for processing your personal information is as a contract with the individual (that’s you).

I may also process your information on the basis of legitimate interests (improving and developing my products and services). For example, reviewing details of your workshop and any questions you asked me will help me develop better workshops in future.

Finally, I may need to process your data on the lawful basis of compliance with a legal obligation. For example, for accounting purposes, an audit, to help prevent fraud, or if required to do so by law.

For how long will I retain your information?

I may keep your personal information for at least 6 years for legitimate business purposes and to comply with the law. I may also store archived copies of electronic information on backups indefinitely.

Who will your information be shared with?

My online store is hosted on Shopify. They provide me with the e-commerce platform that allows me to sell jewellery, silverware, workshops and services to you. Your data is stored by Shopify on a secure server behind a firewall. See Shopify’s privacy policy: https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy

My marketing automation provider is MailChimp. I use them to store my email database, host my email signup forms and to send you emails. See MailChimp’s privacy policy: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/

Google Analytics provide my website usage statistics. Google are based in the USA and are EU-U.S Privacy Shield compliant. See Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Otherwise, I don’t rent, sell or share your personal information with other people or companies except to help prevent fraud, defend legal claims or if required to do so by law.

Under EU data protection laws you have rights in relation to your personal data that include the right to request access, correction, erasure, restriction, transfer, to object to processing, to portability of data and (where the lawful ground of processing is consent) to withdraw consent. To exercise any of your rights, please email me with your request at louise@louisemarydesigns.co.uk and I’ll try to respond within one month. I reserve the right to refuse or to make a reasonable charge if your request is manifestly unfounded, repetitive or excessive.

If you ask me to delete any personal data I hold about you, please be aware that this doesn’t include any data I'm obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

If you’re unhappy with any aspect of how I collect and use your data, you’ve the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at www.ico.org.uk, though I’d appreciate it if you could contact me first with any complaint so that I can try to resolve it for you.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed in browser directories on your computer. I use them for Google Analytics (for website statistics) and to make your browsing experience more efficient and enjoyable (for example, to make sure my store functions properly).
