How to measure ring size

If you are planning on coming to one of my workshops to make a ring for someone who won't be with you on the day and you don't know their ring size, it would be a good idea to use this very straightforward method to measure their ring size ahead of the workshop.

You need to find out the measurement of the circumference of their finger. To do this, cut a narrow strip of paper (around 5mm wide) and wrap this around the finger you would like to make a ring for, then mark with a pencil the point at which it overlaps. Unwrap the paper and measure the strip of paper up to the point you just marked, bring a note of this measurement with you to the workshop.

Alternatively, you can measure the internal diameter (a straight line across the centre of a ring) of the a ring that fits the finger comfortably. Again, bring a note of this measurement with you to the workshop.

Using one of these measurements; you can now look up the ring size on the table below. Bear in mind that if you are making a wide ring (6mm+), you will probably need to go up by a size, to make sure it will fit comfortably. But don't worry, I will give more guidance on the day for this.
